Audition Info:

Dancers will audition based on their grade level as of August 2024.

Auditions are open for dancers grades 3rd-12th for the 2024-25 season.

Dancers MUST attend both days.

  • Friday, April 26th: - Day one held at Paseo/Jefferson location.

4:30pm-6:00pm: 9th-12th grade (grade as of August 2024)

6:00pm-7:00pm: 3rd-5th grade (grade as of August 2024)

7:00pm-8:30pm: 6th-8th grade (grade as of August 2024)

  • Sunday, April 28th: Day two held at WEST SIDE location.

1:00pm until we are done (estimated 3:30pm) : All grade levels

Dancers will be taught the choreography on Friday (Day one) in person at our Paseo location. Dancers will be split up according to age and taught age appropriate choreography. Auditions are closed (no spectators permitted either day).

Dancers will return on Sunday (Day two) for Auditions at the westside location. We will review as a group as well as have dancers audition in pairs, or small groups depending on numbers. Dancers will be dismissed as they audition and we will audition according to age starting with the youngest first.

The choreography might be challenging! If the choreography asks for a triple pirouette but you have not mastered that skill yet, please modify it to a double or a single.  Same goes for turns in second. We want you to do what you can do to the best of your ability. We are not looking for perfection, we are looking for potential, memorization, skill level and where you are in your dance experience.  Dancers will be judged based on facial expression, over all performance, technique, memorization, showmanship, skill base and attitude.

Minimum dance experience required is 3 years. Preferably, dancers should be familiar with tap, ballet, jazz and hip hop prior to auditioning.

If you have questions, please email us!  (See FAQ Section)

Solid black leotard or tank, black dance shorts, tan tights, jazz shoes or twylas, hair in bun, no jewelry.

SHOULD YOU AUDITION?

Our teams compete in pom, jazz, lyrical, contemporary, musical theatre, hip hop, tap open, and line, throughout the year. The skills in the choreography will be a combination of style, turns, leaps, flexibility, jumps and transitions.

Auditioning is always a good experience. If you are considering allstars, we suggest auditioning! You are not committed to our teams by auditioning. You will still have the opportunity to decide if joining is right for you and your family.

Also, don’t worry about not making the cut. We strive to make sure that dancers who are not chosen for teams will still receive constructive feedback from our coaching staff. By applying our recommendations to your training, you have a better chance of success in future auditions.

Please understand that Allstars is a significant time & financial commitment. Allstars should expect to be at the studio a minimum of 4 days a week, possibly more depending on class choices. These teams also travel out of state for competitions and practice year round.

More information can be found in our handbook. If you’d like a copy of the handbook, please email us to request one! If you are new to the Allstar program, you need to read the handbook before auditioning! Handbooks will be available starting March 15th.

FAQ page below with more info.

We suggest at least 3 years previous dance experience prior to auditioning.

AUDITION FAQs

Q. DOES EVERYONE MAKE A TEAM?
A. No. Allstar dancers are placed according to age, skill level, and ability, but they are only placed on a team if they achieve high enough audition scores. If you'd like to perform throughout the year, but do not want to audition, please check out our performance teams in the Dimensions Next program.

Q. WHO JUDGES YOUR AUDITIONS?
A. Auditions are judged by a combination of our coaching staff and outside judges from the Albuquerque area.

Q. HOW MANY TEAMS DO YOU HAVE?
A. The number of teams we have each year depends on the number of dancers who audition, their ages, and their skill. We build teams around the Studio Competition rules and regulations [considering age level divisions], likelihood of score sheet success, and the ability to form positive team bonds. We typically have between 3 - 5 teams.

Q. WHAT IS THE TIME COMMITMENT?
A. Our Allstar program is a competitive program. This program is for dancers and families that are fully invested in the world of dance and are willing to dedicate their time to the team for at least a full year. Our teams rehearse 3 times a week and are required to take a minimum of 2 additional classes outside of team rehearsals. You should expect to be at the studio at least 4 days a week. Competitions & Exhibition performances are held 8 -9 times a year, normally on the weekend.

Q. WHAT IS THE FINANCIAL COMMITMENT?
A. Remember, this is competitive dancing. Like league sports or gymnastics, this is a serious endeavor. The base tuition for all our teams is $349/month and includes all practices & weekly classes. There are additional competition and choreography fees ( $285/mo) as well as costume and travel costs.

Q. DO YOU PRACTICE IN THE SUMMER?
A. We practice throughout the Summer session. New team members will begin training with their team in July. We do understand that family travel occurs during the Summer and will make some allowances for this as long as the travel is communicated with the coaches.

Q. DO YOU HAVE FUNDRAISERS?
A. We will coordinate one official fundraiser [usually sponsorships). However. we encourage you to fundraise individually as well. We have a donate page on our webpage where friends, family etc can sponsors dancers.

Q. HOW CAN I GET MORE INFORMATION?
A. We want you to know what you are getting into before you commit both time and money to this program. A comprehensive parent/student information packet will be available prior to auditions. This packet can be emailed to you upon request. Please email info@dimensions.dance beginning March 15th to request yours!
