AUDITION UPDATES & CHOREOGRAPHY
ONLINE Informational Parent Meeting:
Saturday, June 15th @ 11:00am
(The meeting has ended, but click below to watch the recorded version)
Dancers will audition based on their age as of August 31, 2019.
On June 23rd, get your audition practice files here. There will be 3 videos and 1 music file for each age group.
1. Skill Video (dancers will perform these skills by counts)
2. Routine Choreography (learn the routine)
3. Routine with Music
4. Music to practice with at home
Each age level has a section at the end for your own choreography. This is a chance for you to show off whatever skills you want to! Keep in mind the spacing of the studio and that you will be auditioning with 2 other people.
The choreography might be challenging! If the choreography asks for a triple pirouette but you have not mastered that skill yet, please modify it to a double or a single. Same goes for turns in second. We want you to do what you can do to the best of your ability. We are not looking for perfection, we are looking for potential, memorization, skill level and where you are in your dance experience. Dancers will be judged based on facial expression, over all performance, technique, memorization, showmanship, skill base and attitude.
You have 7 days to learn the choreography! Work hard and practice at home :)
Please see information below to find out what time to come and what to wear etc. Check in upon arrival at the front desk to pay your $10 audition fee, receive a tryout number, and head to rehearsal room. We will review the routine multiple times before the auditions begin. Dancers will be released after they audition. Results will be posted online within 48 hours.

AUDITIONS HELD AT DIMENSIONS SCHOOL OF DANCE & MUSIC
Q. DOES EVERYONE MAKE A TEAM?
A. Allstar dancers are placed according to age, skill level, and ability, but they are only placed on a team if they achieve high enough audition scores. If you'd like to perform throughout the year, but do not want to audition, please check out our performance teams in the Dimensions Next program.
Q. WHO JUDGES YOUR AUDITIONS?
A. Auditions are judged by a combination of our coaching staff and outside judges from the Albuquerque area. We make sure to bring people in that are qualified and have not been involved with a dancer's instruction in order to give an unbiased score and average.
Q. HOW MANY TEAMS DO YOU HAVE?
A. The number of teams we have each year depends on the number of dancers who audition, their ages, and their skill. We build teams around the USASF rules and regulations [considering age level divisions]. likelihood of score sheet success, and the ability to form positive team bonds. We typically have between 3 - 5 teams.
Q. WHAT IS THE TIME COMMITMENT?
A. Our Allstar program is a competitive program. This program is for dancers and families that are fully invested in the world of dance and are willing to dedicate their time to the team for at least a full year. Our teams typically practice twice a week in addition to the 5 required weekly dance classes. You should expect to be at the studio at least 4 days a week. Competitions & Exhibition performances are held 8 -9 times a year, normally on the weekend..
Q. WHAT IS THE FINANCIAL COMMITMENT?
A. Remember, this is competitive dancing. Like league sports or gymnastics, this is a serious endeavor. The base tuition for all our teams is $345/month and includes all practices and unlimited classes. There are additional competition and choreography fees (starting at $150/mo) as well as costume and travel costs.
Q. DO YOU PRACTICE IN THE SUMMER?
A. We practice throughout the Summer session as well as attend a mandatory camp in July. We do understand that family travel occurs during the Summer and will make some allowances for this as long as the travel is communicated with the coaches.
Q. DO YOU HAVE FUNDRAISERS?
A. We will coordinate one official fundraiser [usually T-shirts). However. we encourage you to fundraise individually as well. We are always looking into ways to make fundraising more effective (e.g. direct donations) and will inform the team members as new tools are available.
Q. HOW CAN I GET MORE INFORMATION?
A. We want you to know what you are getting into before you commit both time and money to this program. A comprehensive parent/student information packet will be available prior to auditions. This packet can be emailed to you upon request. Please email info@dimensionsNM.com beginning June 1st to request yours! We also conduct an online parent information meeting on Saturday, June 15th at 11am. More details will be posted on our website: www.DanceAndMusicNM.com/allstars
